Fantastyczna p³yta, lepsza od Pale Communion. ¦wietnie jej siê s³ucha w ca³o¶ci. Najlepsze numery to imo Routaine i Ancestral.

Mam potrzebê gruntownego odszczekania mojego focha na Stevena. Ale ¿eby nie by³o zbyt piêknie:

Utwierdzam siê powoli w przekonaniu, ¿e to, w czym Stevenowi najlepiej (w moim odczuciu), to smutne pipczenie dla nastolatek A powa¿nie - do nowej p³yty kaza³y mi wróciæ spokojne i smutne fragmenty. Te ciche i nieskomplikowane. Nie mówiê tu o jakich¶ pomrukach, tylko prostych melodyjkach, które sobie Stefan swoim cienkim g³osem pod¶piewuje. To s± fragmenty, które najbardziej mnie przekonuj±. Pocz±tek Routine albo Happy Returns - pycha.
Najmniej z kolei docieraj± do mnie popisy. Nie wszystkie s± z³e, niektóre potrafi± przykuæ moj± uwagê. Ale album ma sporo takich fragmentów jak pierwsze 2,5 minuty 3 Years Older - to takie tam sobie granie bez wyrazu, bo co¶ byæ tam musi. I w takich chwilach ja ziewam. No ale trudno, ju¿ prawie przywyk³em.

Przede wszystkim jest o niebo lepiej ni¿ na Kruku, który dot±d wydaje mi siê, ¿e sk³ada³ siê przede wszystkim z takich fragmentów, a emocji by³o tam tyle, co kot nap³aka³.

Powoli dostrzegam inne, ale wcze¶niej ju¿ wymienione Happy Returns i Routine to s± jak na razie moi faworyci. Wokale Ninet Tayeb w tym drugim s± fe-no-me-nal-ne. Fajnie, ¿e Steven zdecydowa³ siê do tych (rewelacyjnie skomponowanych) partii zatrudniæ kogo¶, kto potrafi³ z nich tyle wydobyæ. Ju¿ sama barwa tej Pani kiedy schodzi ona w niskie rejestry jest kapitalna, ale to jak za¶piewa³a ca³o¶æ zas³uguje na uznanie. Na pewno zobaczê co ona porabia solo.

Mam wra¿enie, ¿e Steven odbi³ siê wreszcie od ¶ciany wymy¶lania na nowo rocka sprzed dekad i jazzu, bo albumowi ogólnie najbli¿ej do dokonañ Porków ze wszystkich dotychczasowych jego p³yt. Pobrzmiewa mi tu i Stupid Dream i Deadwing, to s± bardzo dalekie skojarzenia, ale jednak s³uchaj±c Kruka nie mia³em ich chyba zupe³nie. Mam  te¿ wra¿enie, ¿e ten lekko popowy luz, który siê tu wkrad³ tu i ówdzie bardziej pasuje Stevenowi ni¿ jazzowa napinka.

Wnioskuj±c po wzrastaj±cej jako¶ci smutnego pipczenia mogê powiedzieæ: Steven, jeste¶ gotowy, mo¿esz wróciæ do Porcupine Tree i nagraæ mi Stupid Dream Part 2.

A Hand. Cannot. Erase. na pewno bêdê jeszcze s³uchaæ wiele razy - kto wie, mo¿e nawet z koñcem roku uznam, ¿e to album lepszy nie tylko od Kruka (to na pewno), ale równie¿ od nierównego przecie¿ Grace for Drowning? Z Insurgentes porównaæ bêdzie najtrudniej, ale na to jeszcze przyjdzie czas.

W³a¶nie mia³em to zamie¶ciæ - Bartek, dodawaj lepiej nowy post, bo jak edytujesz poprzedni, to ma³o kto (ja z pewno¶ci± ) widzi, ¿e co¶ w w±tku zosta³o dopisane.

Nigdy nie dajê fanom tego, czego oczekuj±. Je¿eli podoba im siê dany album, to nigdy nie staram siê nagraæ albumu podobnego brzmieniowo tylko po to, by ich zadowoliæ. Czêsto dostaj± co¶ zupe³nie innego. Bycie muzykiem czêsto wi±¿e siê z konfrontowaniem oczekiwañ fanów i szukaniem z³otego ¶rodka. Ja takim muzykiem nie jestem.

To najbardziej eklektyczny album w mojej dyskografii. Reprezentuje niemal wszystkie moje muzyczne oblicza. Nie by³ to oczywi¶cie zamierzony cel. S±dzê, ¿e na ró¿norodno¶æ brzmieniow± i rozmaite barwy na muzycznej palecie wp³yn±³ koncept p³yty. Niektórzy fani mog± byæ rozczarowani. Z drugiej strony s± s³uchacze, którzy niczego nie oczekiwali od kolejnego albumui takie podej¶cie jest moim zdaniem najlepsze.

Ciekawe czy Steven Wilson nie przymierza siê do kolejnej koncertówki?

And so another leg of the Hand. Cannot. Erase. tour has come to an end, and although reasonably short (12 shows) there were some unforgettable evenings, concluding with 2 fantastic nights at one of the most special concert venues in the world, The Royal Albert Hall in London. A big thank you to everyone that came along to any of these shows. Special mention and praise has to be given to the 2 new guys joining myself, Nick, and Adam for their first European tour; Craig Blundell on drums, and Dave Kilminster on guitar, who not only had the daunting task of filling extremely large shoes, but had to learn over 4 hours of music in just over 4 months, which they then proceeded to play brilliantly and make their own. I’d also like to thank all my special guests at the 2 RAH shows for helping to make these shows such a memorable experience. My personal highlight (among many) would have to be the performances of Routine - relieved of vocal duties I was able to step back, and the combination of one of my favourite songs, the band’s stellar performance, Jess Cope's amazing animated video on the big screen, and Ninet Tayeb’s astounding vocal performance and charisma, all conspired to create a powerfully emotional moment that made me think maybe I did something pretty good with my life after all (-:

Next up for me is to assemble and record a mini album of previously unreleased material, mostly from the HCE writing sessions, including the fairly long piece My Book of Regrets that we played on the recent tour. This project will essentially be album "4 and a half", a companion to the main album, but also a stepping stone to the next album proper. I’m proud of the pieces on it, which are by no means “leftovers”, more like pieces that just didn’t fit in at the time, and subsequent reworking and additional composition has taken place since. This should be released in January, at which point we will be back on the road for another major touring period that will continue on and off until the Summer, and take in a lot of countries for the first time. I have also invited Ninet to join me and the band for this part of the tour, although exactly how many and which shows she will appear at will depend on her availability, as she has a very active career of her own - you can watch her new video here: https://youtu.be/k6qc9bX_7vQ

During this period we're also planning to shoot a live performance film. These days I’m not so enthusiastic about the standard filmed live concert format, so myself and Lasse have been looking at a way to do something really different and to perhaps push the envelope a bit with regard to what a live performance film can be.

But the bottom line is that there will be a visual live document of the HCE era, and hopefully a very special and unique one.
